CARIBBEAN MOVIE TO MAKE HISTORY

If you are dazzled by the big screen and wish to be part of Caribbean movie history, then be among the first to sit in your local cinema and view the first Caribbean-produced cricket movie.

“Hit For Six!” a movie written and directed by Trinidad-born Barbadian, Alison Saunders-Franklyn, will premiere in Barbados on Wednesday, April 18 in a grand Red Carpet event held under the patronage of Prime Minister of Barbados, The Right Honourable Owen Arthur.

The film features a talented Caribbean cast in an exciting fictional account of the life of a sidelined Barbados and West Indies cricketer, Alex Nelson, who is the son of a West Indies cricket icon. It brings together elements of love, intrigue, disappointment and passion, as Nelson seeks to overcome adversities related to his game, personal relationships and lifestyle. “Hit For Six!” has received the blessing of the West Indies Cricket Board and is made even more exciting with cameo appearances by the Cricket Legends of Barbados including Sir Everton Weekes, Joel Garner, Rev Wes Hall, Desmond Haynes and Gordon Greenidge; soca queen Alison Hinds; cricket commentators Tony Cozier, Andrew Mason and Fazeer Mohammed, and famous cricket photographer, Gordon Brooks.

Saunders-Franklyn disclosed that the movie was produced on a budget of US$700 000 and dates for regional distribution were being finalized. She explained that it is a story of West Indies cricket history, music and culture with which each Caribbean person can identify. “It is a true celebration of regional talent and expertise and showcases the colourful and rich culture of our people, professionally packaged to unveil to the world. Hit For Six! should be an inspiration to Caribbean cricket fans, especially in view of the current concerns about West Indies cricket,” she added.

The star-studded cast of “Hit For Six!” which includes Canadian-based Barbadian actress, Alison Sealy-Smith, whose filmography includes “Kevin Hill” “Naturally Sadie” and “Take the Lead” (2006); British-based Trinidadian actor, Rudolph Walker, who is currently starring in “Eastenders” on the BBC network in the UK, and has also featured in “The Crouches” (2003), and “Love Thy Neighbour”; the popular host of MTV Tempo, Trinidadian Jeanille Bonterre; popular Jamaican screen and television actor, Lenford Salmon, and Barbadian stars Andrew Pilgrim, who has appeared in the soap operas “Westwood Park” and “The Bold and The Beautiful” and actress Varia Williams.
